Imagine going to work and waking up in an ambulance to be told you’d had a sudden cardiac arrest and it was only the rapid use of a defibrillator that saved your life. This happened in November 2019 to Merrow resident Judith Hunt. As she recovered she decided to start raising funds to improve local access to defibrillators. Beating Hearts Merrow (BHM) was set up to achieve this goal.

As a result, there are now four additional public access defibrillators sited around Merrow. But defibrillators are only part of the solution, people need to be confident to use one. So alongside fundraising, BHM offers Life Saver demonstrations using training defibrillators. To date, over 1000 people (of all ages) have come along.
